Do comic book artist draw from there mind?

I’m interested in comic book drawing or just drawing marvel type art. I can think of a superhero but cant put it down on paper well enough. Do comic book artist just think of the superhero and there poses and just draw the detailed picture?

They do initial sketchwork, planning how they will present this super hero and experiment with looks
