What is the proper way to display canvas prints?
I recently acquired some artwork in the form of a canvas painting set over a wooden frame. I was wondering if there is any “proper” or “modern” method of displaying these pieces. Any tips appreciated

You are in luck, I was a professional picture framer just a few years ago.
First, you want to make sure that the canvas is stretched taut, so take it to a frame shop to have it re-stretched if it is sagging at all. The re-stretching has to be done by a professional, trust me. If they don’t do it right, you might get cracks in the paint, so that’s why I recommend professionals, they also have the right stretching pliers. If it’s worth a lot, insist that they use stainless steel staples for the stretching.
Next, some people consider it a “modern” way of hanging a canvas by hanging it without a frame. In that case you have the option of leaving the edge unfinished or to have it finished by a frame shop, in which case they would apply a special “tape” around the edge of the canvas to have it look a bit more finished. That tape can either be the white/offwhite color that it comes in, or they can finish it to match a color of the painting. If you choose taping, make sure they use acid free, archival quality materials.
You could also have it framed. There are all kinds of frames available when you visit your frame shop, including shadow frames that basically sit behind the canvas with a small gap in between the frame and the canvas, that can look pretty striking, too.
In any case, insist that anything that will be touching the canvas, including the frame, will be acid free. They can “paint” the lip of the frame (called rabbet) with an acid free laquer to protect the canvas.
Believe me, if you like your paintings, make sure everything is done acid free because you’ll get ugly marks on the canvas after a frame has been on it for a few years. And if you ever want to reframe the picture later on, you would possibly see these marks because the lip / rabbet width differs from frame to frame… There you go!
