Comics Aquaman

Comics Aquaman
good graphic novels to read for DC Comics?

here are the people i am interested in(btw it would help if i could get recomendations for mainly starter graphic novels): Superman, batman, robin, nightwing, martian manhunter, green lantern, flash, green arrow, cyborg, beast boy, aquaman, deathstroke, metamorpho, and shazam. thanks!

For Superman, there’s really no good starter, since everyone knows his origin, there really hasn’t been any “starter” graphic novels on him since he was first created. But several good graphic novels of him I know are “All-Star Superman”, and “Superman: Secret Origin”.

For Batman, I’d suggest “Batman: Year One”. Aside from starters, I’d also recommend “Batman: Hush”, “Batman RIP”, “Final Crisis”, and “Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne”. “Batman: The Long Halloween” is also good.

Currently for Robin (Tim Drake), there really isn’t much of a starter, or graphic novel to go on, because for the most part, Robin’s hero capacity rarely exceeded Teen Titan books, or Batman books, so just look for books where he’s prominently shown. It is noteworthy to point out, Tim Drake upgrading from the mantle of Robin, to “Red Robin”. He has his own title as “Red Robin”, and I’m sure a graphic novel is coming out soon of the collected first issue, if it isn’t already out.

Starter books for Nightwing are sort of similar to Robin, there really isn’t any, nowadays. But I’d look for Titan books (“Titan”, -not- “Teen Titan”) with him in it. It again is also important to point out, Nightwing has moved up to the mantle of Batman, in Bruce’s abscense, so him as Batman, I’d suggest “Batman: Battle for the Cowl”, and the “Batman & Robin” graphic novels.

Martian Manhunter is unfortunately a sorely underused, and for that matter, underrated character. He really doesn’t have much going on, but for starters, I’d probably recommend “JLA: Year One”, or “Justice League: The Final Frontier”. But starter books aside, I would recommend “Final Crisis”, “Blackest Night”, and “Brightest Day” (which Brightest day is still in single comic form, but should be collected into a trade paper-back by early spring 2011).

Green Lantern, luckily, has a plethora of books to choose from. For starters, I’d recommend:

Green Lantern: Secret Origin
Emerald Twilight
Final Night
Green Lantern: Rebirth
Green Lantern: No Fear
Green Lantern: Revenge of the Green Lanterns
Green Lantern: Wanted
Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps. War Vol. 1
Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps. War Vol. 2
Green Lantern: Rage of the Red Lanterns
Green Lantern: Agent Orange
Blackest Night
Green Lantern: Blackest Night
Brightest Day (like I said above, it should have a graphic novel of the issues collected coming out in spring of 2011)

Flash (Barry Allen), I’d recommend, since there really aren’t starters either, but just important story-lines:

Crisis on Infinite Earths
Infinite Crisis
Final Crisis
Flash: Rebirth
Blackest Night

And currently, the Flash comic got somewhat of a reboot, and is just now reaching 6 issues I believe, but expect a graphic novel of those issues collected around the same time as Brighest Day.

And again, for Green Arrow, starters really aren’t readily available, but I should explain that you could order a re-issuing of his origin, and of each character I listed that didn’t have a starter comic, online at Amazon.com, or Barnes&noble.com.
For important story-lines, I’d say “Identity Crisis”, “Justice League: Cry for Justice”, and the current issues of his new comic, which should be collected into a graphic novel by summer/fall of 2011.

For Cyborg and Beast Boy, I’d read writer Geoff Johns run of “Teen Titans”, starting with “Teen Titans: A Kids Game”.

Aquaman, I’d say JLA: Year One. (You should be informed, Aquaman was killed back in 2007, I believe it was, but his death was really uneventful, and was even really showcased, covered, or anything, strangely enough. It’s just kind of mentioned that he died.), but for important story-lines, I’d recommend “Blackest Night”, followed by “Brightest Day”.

There’s really not much of a starter comic for Deathstroke, either. But important story-lines would be “Identity Crisis”, “Infinite Crisis”, and the current issues of “Titans: Villains for hire”, which should be collected as a graphic novel in summer/fall of 2011.

Metamorpho, I’d just suggest the current graphic novels of the “Outsiders”.

Captain Marvel, I’d read the graphic novels written by Jerry Ordway in the 90′s, followed by “Infinite Crisis”, and “The Trials of Shazam! Vol. 1 & 2″. Following that, read the “52 vol. 1 – 4″, and “Justice Society of America: Black Adam and Isis”. Also “Titans: Villains for Hire”.

Hope this helps!
