This one fine Friday night movie session with my friends was a disastrous one, when one of us decided to watch Bride Wars (OMFG!). I was cursing my way out all the way to the carpark after watching this typical crappy shitty chick flick movie. The first big-studio movie released in 2009 has a damn fine chance of being the worst. Bride Wars isn’t just chick-flick hell for guys, it should numb the skulls of moviegoers of all sexes and ages.

Warning spoilers ahead! Here’s how the story goes, Hathaway and Hudson play bffs since kidhood. They both share the goal of finding the right man and getting married at Manhattan’s posh, old-world Plaza Hotel. These two best friends who had the question simultaneously popped (The ol famous Will You Marry Me? question), but neither will give in – both wants to marry at the Plaza Hotel in June. When wedding planner Candice Bergen made a mistake and tells them there’s only one date available in June, the brides-to-be go to war, willing to cut each others throat to score the date. One dyes the other’s hair blue. One switches the tan colour of another to orange. Hehe…a nice message of showing how female friendship is, huh? The male characters have it worse here, being written and cast and acted like wallpaper in the movie.
Sadly, that’s basically what we get out of this movie, a dumb ass catfight, Bride-vs-Bride show, and the inevitable Candice Bergen cameo expressing a brusque contempt for the whole business.
If you really, really want to watch this movie or your girlfriend forces you to watch it, my advice please just buy a pirated dvd (not encouraging you to support piracy but this movie isn’t even worth buying the original) or you can even download it. Don’t waste your money going to the cinema.
