Plastic Man

Whatever man can construct, ie: plastic then man should be able to invent a way to deconstruct, surely?
Are we simply not motivated enough to find the answer?
Sure, we can destroy (almost) everything that we know how to create. Plastic, for example, we can burn easily enough, but that gives off toxic chemicals, unless we burn it hot enough. We have the technology to incinerate plastics cleanly, it’s just a matter of cost. It’s always cheaper to throw something away, or bury it, than to completely destroy it. We know how to destroy our trash, we just don’t have enough motivation to expend resources on it.

Eden $5.13 In this follow-up to the smashing success of her 1997 CD Time to Say Goodbye, Sarah Brightman continues down the primrose crossover path, blithely gliding from covers of Hooverphonic (the title track) and Kansas (“Dust in the Wind”) to Puccini and film scores (Titanic and The English Patient). Sometimes, as in “Anytime, Anywhere,” the crossover happens within the same song–in this case welding a … |

Karma and Effect $6.18 Seether’s follow-up to their promising, moderately successful 2002 debut, Disclaimer, and its spottier, hastily repackaged 2004 sequel, was reportedly beset by fighting with their label–friction that dictated everything from profanity-free lyrics to a title change (the original name was the telling Catering to Cowards.) Yet the band effectively rises above those constraints, if only by largely st… |

Acoustic $9.98 John Lennon was celebrated for the ornate and avant-garde adornments he brought to the Beatles, but he also at times responded to a powerful impulse to strip his music to its raw essence. Indeed, Lennon would have flourished in the unplugged era, when the nakedness of his best lyrics and the cutting directness of his astonishing voice would have been in the fore. Since John never got around to doi… |
