Is Superman’s weakness connected with his powers?

I recently thought about Superman, more specifically his weakness to Kryptonite and the fact that his powers come from being under the light of a yellow sun. I have noticed 2 things with this. 1, Superman has never shown with krytonite EXCEPT when in the light of a yellow sun (super powers on) and 2, the yellow sun= superpowers thing is shared by all kryptonians. Since Krypton was made of Kryptonite AND had a red sun, did everyone there have headaches? Or is the Kryptonite weakness linked with being under a yellow sun?

When Krypton exploded, the remnants of the planet were irradiated, making them highly dangerous. While the radiation from Kryptonite is highly lethal to Kryptonians due to their unique cellular structures, exposure over a period of time can effect Terrans as well. Lex Luthor, in his original Post-Crisis body, wore a Kryptonite ring on a regular basis. As a result, he lost a hand to radiation poisoning. This problem was solved when he jumped into a new, cloned body for himself sometime later.
