This is said by the ghost of Hamlet’s father.

A serpent bit me…

But know this, my son,
The serpent that stung your father’s life
Now wears his crown.”

The first part refers to a literal serpent, as in a snake. The serpent in the second stanza refers to the Hamlet’s now step father, King Claudius.
