Not only am I welder but I do play the piano (seriously) I learned to play by ear and cant read a lick of sheet music. I am self taught. I can read the notes but I have to study them- i cant read fast enough to play as I read. I just listen to the song I want to play and learn it by trial and error.
I did, however, seek out an older lady about 10 years ago and she sat with me at the piano and had me show her some things. When I was done she told me that at 28 years old (back then) she couldnt ‘un’ teach my bad habits I had picked up but that what I was doing worked well and that I was good and to keep it up. She was 79 then and, sadly, she passed about 2 years ago- sad day for me because she was one of the ‘old’ teachers.
